I got this rum from a client when starting our collaboration. I did not know this rum so I was full of expectations. Both the box and the bottle look luxurious and when you open the bottle – oh, gods – what a smell. It is not a coincidence that this rum is often compared to Pyrat or the A. H. Riise rums. So, my dear friends, let’s have a look at this Brazilian beauty.
Alberto Santos-Dumont was a Brazilian aviation pioneer and inventor. He engineered the world’s first dirigible airship and carried out the first-ever recorded flight of an aircraft heavier than air in Europe. He was born and died in Brazil but spent most of his days working in France. The Santos-Dumont crater on the Moon bears his name, as well as the Rio de Janeiro airport, Aeroporto Santos Dumont, and this wonderful rum.
Brazilian rums are not very common but this one is really exceptional. Santos Dumont X.O is aged in sherry and port casks for 14 to 16 years. It has a delicate taste of tropical fruits and really is closest to the A. H. Riise rums. This will be for everyone who agrees with my taste in rums. However, do not expect an elixir, it is a proper rum, which you feel in the finish. Its colour is beautiful honey hue and even in taste, you get some honey notes. It holds a nice score of 7.9 at RumRatings (personally, I would give much more). With limited editions like this one, a very pretty numbered bottle is as expected. Mine is 213.
In Czechia, you get it for fair CZK 1 488. And really, get it, it makes your evenings much more pleasant.
