The delicious smuggler rum: Kirk and Sweeney 18-year-old

These days, there are not that many things to be happy about. Let’s check out one of the new arrivals, the very fine Kirk and Sweeney. I found out about this rum thanks to the “new arrivals” section of and the bottle immediately caught my eye. I like these round pirate bottles that fit nicely in your hand.

The taste and smell of the Kirk and Sweeney rum

First – the smell. Kirk and Sweeney smells very pleasantly – expect vanilla, tropical fruits and a hint of raisins. Similar notes are present in the mouth but be aware that this rum is quite powerful. And really great it has 8.3 out of 10 on Rum ratings and holds the 2015 Highest Recommendation of F. Paul Pacult’s Spirit Journal.

Each bottle is numbered by hand on a label – I have number 9907. The rum is aged in oak barrels in California, where it is also bottled. Its name comes from the times when rum was smuggled by the sea from the Caribbean to the USA, which is where the Kirk and Sweeney ship got its fame, selling rum away from the port to smaller ships. I certainly recommend this rum and this great bottle is available for less than CZK 1500 or any other (12-year-old or 23-year-old).
